Boys Varsity Soccer - Irmo vs Dutch Fork
http://irmosoccer.com
Irmo forward, Kyle McKewen, struck first on a shot to the left side of the goal after the ball was crossed by Zach Acree who took it to the right touch line after strong defensive and mid field play by his Irmo teammates.
Dutch Fork answered the Irmo goal with roughly 5 minutes remaining in the first half when Danny Cates found an opening to strike a 25 yard beauty which bent into the upper right corner of the net as Irmo Keeper Rob Sullivan stretched to get a glove tip on the shot.
Regulation play ended 1-1 after an intense second half and two overtimes of great opportunities by both clubs. Irmo and Dutch Fork then faced off for PK's to decide the winner. Irmo keeper, Steven Arneson, was in goal as Dutch Fork's #14 placed their first PK into the net.
Irmo countered as Kyle McKewen placed the first PK into the right side of the goal. The next two PK's by Dutch Fork would strike the bottom of the right post and deflect away while the second strike by Cates would be saved by keeper Arneson by his outreached right foot. The Arneson save sent the Irmo fans and team into a huge celebration.
The second Irmo PK was placed into the lower left corner by Taylor Varney. Leo Mukofsky blistered his PK into the left side, followed by Emmett Lunceford who finished the series with his successful shot placement in the lower right corner against the Dutch Fork keeper.
Irmo soccer players now take some time off for spring break prior to preparing for their second region game against South Aiken on March 28, 2008.

Boys Varsity Soccer - Irmo vs Spring Valley
http://www.irmosoccer.com
Irmo opened the non region home match against cross town rival and defending state champion Spring valley by dominating play during the first 15 to 20 minutes. Irmo created multiple chances to score the first goal of the game on skillful linking between players all over the field, but was unable to score.
Faced with a relentless attack by Irmo, Spring Valley found it within themselves to turn the tide after about 25 minutes into the game by gaining a majority of the possession and ultimately scoring on a 20 yard blast for the right foot of sophomore, Antoine Parris.
The second Spring Valley goal came from what I think was a free kick to the back post, which was headed in.
Irmo now prepares to meet rival Dutch Fork at home on Friday of this week.

Irmo vs Spring Valley
The second half opened with Spring Valley playing a faster pace one touch style and with more desire than they exhibited in the first half. With roughly 25 minutes remaining in the half, Spring Valley's Antoine Parris made it to the left corner where he crosses a ball into the box which was finished into the left portion of the goal.
Irmo was down, but refused to give in. Irmo stepped up play ultimately creating 10 corner kicks to Spring Valley's 1. Irmo pounded SV relentlessly during the final 20 minutes with their closest opportunity coming from a strike by Zach Acree which hit the left post and deflected away. Numerous other chances occurred in the half, but failed to find the net.

Irmo vs Dutch Fork Boys Varsity Final Score
Final Score: 6-1
Irmo went into halftime with solid defensive play and a lead of 2-0 on a goal by Zach Acree after he drew a foul in the box. The Acree goal from the PK spot was followed by a goal scored by junior, Kyle Hubbard, after 2 or 3 Irmo players got shots off in the box.
The second half produced a single goal by Dutch Fork on a quality shot driven home by Danny Cates from 20 to 25 yards out. The Dutch Fork goal seemed to awaken the beast in Irmo as Irmo responded with four unanswered goals.

Goal number three was scored by Taylor Varney as he chipped the keeper after receipt of a long pass up the middle from Emmett Lunceford.
Leo Mukofsky scored a beautiful goal after beating two or three defenders in the box to score on a nicely placed left post shot.
Taylor Varney relentlessly attacked the Dutch Fork defense drawing two more fouls in the box, which Varney successfully converted from the PK spot.
Great job on the night as the Irmo Yellow Jackets close out the first week of play with 9 goals for and 1 goal against during wins over Ridgeview and Dutch Fork.
Next week starts with a match against Spring Valley, at Spring Valley, on Tuesday night followed by a region match against White Knoll.
