Irmo forward, Kyle McKewen, struck first on a shot to the left side of the goal after the ball was crossed by Zach Acree who took it to the right touch line after strong defensive and mid field play by his Irmo teammates.
Dutch Fork answered the Irmo goal with roughly 5 minutes remaining in the first half when Danny Cates found an opening to strike a 25 yard beauty which bent into the upper right corner of the net as Irmo Keeper Rob Sullivan stretched to get a glove tip on the shot.
Regulation play ended 1-1 after an intense second half and two overtimes of great opportunities by both clubs. Irmo and Dutch Fork then faced off for PK's to decide the winner. Irmo keeper, Steven Arneson, was in goal as Dutch Fork's #14 placed their first PK into the net.
Irmo countered as Kyle McKewen placed the first PK into the right side of the goal. The next two PK's by Dutch Fork would strike the bottom of the right post and deflect away while the second strike by Cates would be saved by keeper Arneson by his outreached right foot. The Arneson save sent the Irmo fans and team into a huge celebration.
The second Irmo PK was placed into the lower left corner by Taylor Varney. Leo Mukofsky blistered his PK into the left side, followed by Emmett Lunceford who finished the series with his successful shot placement in the lower right corner against the Dutch Fork keeper.
Irmo soccer players now take some time off for spring break prior to preparing for their second region game against South Aiken on March 28, 2008.
