Upper State Championship: Irmo vs Northwestern
Final Score:
Irmo 1 NW 2
The sideline ref. called a push in the back by the Irmo striker and called the Irmo goal back. The video clearly shows both players going for the ball with the defender planting an arm into the striker who hit the ground as the NW defender heads the ball into the goal. The reaction of the NW defender doesn't indicate he was fouled. A very controversial call that ended up being a game breaker for Irmo.
Irmo ended the half down by one. The second half opened with 25 minutes of absolute dominance by Irmo, which is when Irmo scored on a beautiful header by Matt Sieverding from a corner kick by Jugal Dalal.
Irmo lost some momentum as NW stepped up their level of play for the next 10 minutes or so when they took a shot from the right side which was knocked down by the Irmo keeper. The ball was batted around in the box a couple of times before a NW player punched it in for their second goal on the night.
Down by one, Irmo drew on that desire we've come to know so well and again pounded the devil out of the NW midfield and defenders but failed to net their opportunities.
Irmo was the superior team tonight, but were unable to have the luck break their way.
Great season boys!

Playoff Game #2: Irmo Defeats Spartanburg
Post compliments (in part) of clemsonsoccer07 on SCSoccer.com
Spartanburg was awarded a PK in the first minute when the Irmo keeper was given a red card. Spartanburg capitalized on the PK and went up 1-0. They had another goal on a flick from a long throw and a third goal on a great individual run and some lazy defending. Irmo was down 3-0 with about 15 minutes left in the first half. The Irmo boys never gave up and pulled one goal back with 4 minutes to go in the half on precision strike from Trent Morgan . Irmo got a second point back with only about 2 left and the half ended 3-2. At that point you could definitely feel the momentum shift Irmo's way and Spartanburg was on their heels from then on out. Irmo went on to score 4 more goals in the second half, all a man down. The 6th and final goal was one of the dirtiest goals I've seen in a long time. Taylor Varney froze two defenders in the box, making them both dive to the ground after faking the shot and came to the keeper and made him dive to the ground after faking the shot for the third time before cooly tapping it in the back of the net. The Irmo boys showed a great deal of poise and determination to pull themselves out of a 3-0 hole with only 10 men. GOOD LUCK!!!
Goal - Trent Morgan, Assist - Daniel Lynch
Goals - Taylor Varney X4, Assists will be posted after I recover from the excitement and figure them out!
Goal - Zack Acree, Assist to be posted
